Beauty Blog Advent Calendar 2012: 01/12/12

Last year, Sparklecrack Central came up with the idea of a Beauty Blog Advent Calendar where we featured little bits of beauty blogging things we love. This year, she gave us a bit more notice and we are joined by The Unknown Beauty Blog!

Beauty Blog Advent Calendar - Day 1

I have been asked a few questions by Sparklecrack Central to kick off the Advent Calendar this year!

1 - Why did you start your beauty blog? What's been the most fun about it? What's been the biggest surprise about it?
I began the blog after some repeated poking from people who watched my YouTube videos. I quickly realised it was a great way to keep getting beauty related stuff done but without the hassle of filming, editing and uploading a video. I'm actually enjoying my blog way more than YouTube these days. The most fun thing has to have been the people I've met and the friendships I've made because of it. I became friends with Cosmetichameleon when she found me and it turns out she only lives down the road. I fulfilled a dream and went to Dragon Con last year because I got chatting with Sparklecrack Central, because we both blog about similar things. I'm surprised that people are still interested in what I've got to say! I don't always blog about the most recent things, sometimes I don't get a limited edition product blogged about until I find it again in my stash 2 years later! But people are still reading my blog every single day.

2 -What one beauty product would you recommend to anyone? What technique or tip do you hope everyone tries?
I would absolutely recommend Gel Liner to everyone! I had such issues learning how to use liquid liner, in fact I still regularly fail when I use it! But when MAC's Fluidlines were released, I was able to get the look of liquid liner but with the ease of pencil. I still prefer gel liner today.

I know it's a vague little tip but - use eye shadow primer!! It really makes a huge difference to how well your eye shadow lasts and looks.

3 -You'll be given $500,000 (£312150), tax-free, if you go without buying any makeup for a year, or without wearing any makeup for two years. (Does not include sunscreen, soap, cleansers/toners/skincare, clear lip balms like Chapstick. Does include foundation, finishing powder, concealer, colored/tinted lip balms, BB creams.) Which do you do?
I'm definitely going for the no buying make up for a year option! I love wearing make up and I've probably got enough stuff to blog about that I haven't used much in order to keep me entertained for a year. I don't want to think about not wearing make up for two years, next question!

4 -What's your favorite color that you just can't wear (as a blusher, eyeshadow, lip color)?
I think it's got to be copper. I love the metallic reddish richness of the colour of new pennies, but it just makes me look ill! No matter if it's shadow, liner, blush or lip colour, something about that warm undertone just looks off with my skin tone. I'll wear it as nail colour though, just not on my face.

5 -You can only have three DVDs to watch and three books to read for one year. Which ones do you choose? (Note: a series of books does not count as one book; but the complete series of a TV show counts as one DVD. I know, I'm weird with rules).
Three books to read in a year? That's just unfair! Ok, how about The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I found an edition of the three books bound in one book, it totally counts), The Collected Stories of Arthur C Clarke and Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything.

As for DVDs, I think we'll have another sci-fi fest. Firefly, Red Dwarf and Star Trek: Voyager.

  2. Nice to know the little things about you :-). BTW, don't tell anyone but I haven't read any of the Lord of the Rings stuff or seen Firefly. *hangs head in shame* But I did watch Nathan Fillion in the movie Slither! :-)

    2. Yep. Held a peace-bolded laser gun to her head. In fact, I think it was a replica Lassiter. (NB: that will make sense to Firefly geeks. The rest of the world will just shake their heads.)

In a semi-related note, did you guys see the news? Joss Whedon's version of Much Ado About Nothing is releasing in June 2013! http://screenrant.com/joss-whedon-much-ado-about-nothing-release-date/
