FOTD - 26/04/10

Just as I plan to get back into the blogging world, life goes a bit mad and I just don't get round to it! I took some time last night to have a play with make up for the first time in what feels like ages so I took a couple of pictures. I figured a FOTD post was the best way to ease back into the blog!

Got a few things coming up which I think you'll like. I drove over to the Parcelforce depot at the end of last week to pick up my Coastal Scents Metal Mania palette. I'm having a lot of fun playing with that! Also, I'm waiting for the postman to drop some new Bee Luscious goodies into my hands, cannot wait for the new palette! And finally, the reviews for the Lauren Luke palettes are still in progress! Fingers crossed, the next tutorial and blog review should get done this coming weekend.

I used:
-Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer
-L'Oreal True Match Foundation "Candy Cane"
*-ELF High Definition Powder
-MAC Paint "Untitled"
-MAC Shadestick "Beige-Ing"
*-Sleek Make Up Bohemian Palette
-Urban Decay Liquid Liner "Oil Slick"
-Mascara
-Shu Uemura Blusher "M Pink 31"
-Some lipgloss that I can't remember

Items marked with a star (*) were sent to me for review.

As a bonus, here are the ducks that live next to us having a paddle in a puddle at the end of the driveway:

Review: By Lauren Luke My Fierce Violets Palette

I thought I'd come back to the land of blogging with something that I've been very excited to play with! I've had more requests for the By Lauren Luke palettes than any other single item!

I'm starting with "My Fierce Violets" simply because someone asked. I'm sorry, but I didn't note down your name. I just want to point out that the newer palettes have the lovely floral designs printed on them, rather than just on the box. Much better. All the palettes also have a schematic printed on th eback showing what is in the palette.

I think we're all familiar with Lauren's story. She's someone who has had the most amazing success with YouTube and got to release her own make up line last year. You can find out more on her website: byLaurenLuke.

There are 5 palettes currently, and I will be reviewing and swatching each of the individually on my blog. I'll be doing a tutorial for each on my YouTube channel, followed by a review video of all 5 palettes. As so many of you have asked me to review them, I wanted to make sure I am as thorough as possible.

This palette is available at the above link for £23.99 (I'm not sure on US pricing, $34 ish?). Also sold at Sephora in the US and QVC (in the UK, at least).

So, in each palette you get 2 colours of primer, one large "base" shadow, one blusher, one black liner, one deep shadow, one highlight shadow, and two lip colours. The swatches in the picture follow the palette.

The palettes are made of card, so I personally wouldn't travel with them. While the card does feel somewhat sturdy, I'm not sure they'd last through repeated trips. There is a decent sized mirror in the lid which doesn't have much distortion to it so it's going to be useful. No applicators are included. Normally this wouldn't bother me but I'm not one for using lip products in pans so I have to hunt down a lipbrush.

My palette looks a little different now as I have been rigorously testing all the products! I do take my product photos before use so that you can see a lovely, clean palette.

-Nude Slip Dark/Light Primer: I really did not like the primers. My lids are becomming oilier as I age and these primers just did not work with my lids. If you have very dry lids you might get on a little better but I found the primers just too oil based for me to get any use out of them.
-Crushed Lilac Shadow: Very pretty light lilac shadow with some tiny silver sparkle. A bit too sheer, I have to pack this colour on, it looks very silvery on me. Very soft and smooth in texture.
-Turkish Night Shadow: Very sparkley! It's a red/purple sparkle over a very deep bluish purple base. You'll see from the swatch that the sparkle does get picked up by the brush. Be careful not to overblend though as it will work away the lovely sparkle. This one is very pigmented. Makes a really great liner if you use a damp brush.
-Porcelain Dust Shadow: Shimmery white. I've been using it as a highlighter. Not too frosty, nice and subtle.
-Raven Black Cream Liner: Same black liner in each palette. To be honest, I am a little worried about this drying out a few months down the line as it's not sealed. This liner feels more oil based than some gel and cream liners I have so I'm hoping that will extend the life somewhat. Good basic black, I have needed to apply a couple of layers for maximum impact.
-Sepia Rose Blush: Plenty of pigmentation! Be careful when applying! Good, neutral shade. Not too warm or cool so it should work with a number of skintones. Blends quite well but you do need to work carefully with this one.
-Sheer Berry Lip Color: Very pretty lip colour, my favourite of the two. It's a rosey berry shade with golden shimmer and quite sheer. Doesn't last that long on me to be honest.
-Cherry Whip Lip Color: Much more pigmentation than the other lip colour, but too bright and red toned on my skin so I can't say much about it.

Overall, this one isn't my favourite of the 5 but there's everything here you need to create a couple of looks. I've gone for a softer look here, but you could pack on the "Turkish Night" and really go nuts for a smokey look.

This is the look I've been wearing in my latest batch of YouTube videos (yeah, I'm back on YouTube - let's have a make up party!!!). I have recorded the tutorial, I will get it up as soon as I can. I know quite a few of you have been asking me for it.

Keep a look out for my reviews on the rest, I'm doing the Smokey Classics palette next!

This palette was provided free for me to review and play with. As you can see, that doesn't mean I'm going to alter my review because it was free.

Well, hello!

Hello my lovely readers! Just popping in to say I'm still here :) I haven't abandonded the blog, I just needed to take a little time off from YouTube and my blog. But I have been testing plenty of products and I have a load of reviews coming up! Time to charge up the camera and get back into the swing of things!
