WTF is a Scrublet?

I follow quite a few of the American bloggers who have access to a completely different range of products to me. One of my favourites is Nouveau Cheap who is all about beauty on a budget. While I can't get to Target and CVS, for example, I do love reading about what she's been buying and reviewing.

Recently, she showcased a cleanser from L'Oreal called Go 360 Clean Deep which came with a pop-out Scrublet. It's basically a rubberised gentle exfoliator. I thought it looked pretty interesting and made a note of it on my "if it ever shows up in the UK" mental list I try and keep.

So, you can guess that I was pretty surprised to find this when mooching around Tesco this evening.

Not the same name or bottle, but it has a Scrublet! I'm assuming it's the usual "let's release it in another country and pretend it's something entirely different" thing that big brands like to do. I always pick up the sensitive range for drugstore skincare. My skin isn't exactly sensitive but the regular ranges tend to be way too drying for me.

This was found in the reduced to clear section of my teeny local Tesco. I'm not sure if it's a discontinued product as I've never seen it before (I'm waiting for everyone in the UK to tell me they've been using it for years!). Maybe it was a box of excess stock or a trial product? Anyway, it was reduced to £2.99 from £3.32.

The Scrublet is a very soft, flexible, nobbled thing. I just ran it over my face and it doesn't feel rough or scratchy.

I think I need to check out the clearance section more often.

  1. I saw this in Superdrug today and they were marketing it as a brand new product, I left it by the wayside though.

It was priced at £2.99 in there but I think it's on offer. They should really market their products more, I'm finding more and more items bought by bloggers first, before the ads have come out.

  2. I've seen it in superdrug the past week costing much more than the price you paid in tesco. It seems like a new concept to us here in the U.K., i certainly haven't seen this around before, so please let us know how you get on with this.

  3. First of all, thank you SO much for the shout-out! I am so honored that you like my blog--it means the world to me. :)

Second, I have some good news for you! I'm not sure about this UK l'oreal product but from your pic, the scrublet looks a lot different than the US version. BUT, one of your fellow UK bloggers, Lillian Funny Face, told me about a Soap & Glory product in the UK and I swear to you, the scrublet is *identical* to the US L'Oreal version! Check it out:

So if you want something that's as close to the US version as possible, I would definitely check out the Soap and Glory version (although it doesn't come with soap--it's just called a Mini Mitt). Hope that helps! :)

  4. oooh im going to look out for that, i am a great fan of the tesco beauty clearance section hehe, my boyfriend works in the "non food" department at our local tesco and beauty falls under that catagory so he always lets me know when there are goodies to be had :D.

  6. Hi--me again! I just have to ask this because of the Tesco references: We have a chain of supermarkets here in the US called "Fresh & Easy" and this chain is owned by Tesco. As a consequence, this chain stocks a lot of interesting UK brands of food, which are of course completely foreign to me. One item in particular is Heinz Salad Cream, which is not available at regular US supermarkets. I am always intrigued by this product whenever I visit Fresh & Easy but I'm also scared to try it because I have no idea what it will taste like. lol. Can one of you lovely UK'ers tell me if it's worth a purchase? Thanks so much! :)

  7. @Rhamnousia - I'm noticing the same. I quite often know more about a product from blogs than from seeing it in media.

@Ally - I've started using it so I'll let you know my thoughts in a couple of weeks.

@Recessionista! - Hi! I had no idea you ready my blog :) I'll have a look at Soap & Glory next time I'm in Boots. As for Salad Cream, I quite like it!

@Charly - That's quite useful! I had another look today and nothing was worth really looking at.

@Katie - it makes me giggle as well, the name is quite funny!

  9. Scrublet!! I love that word, that's my new word of the week :)

@Recessionista! I love salad cream. Only way I can think to describe it is it's like a ketchup version of mayonnaise. As in it's quite sweet like ketchup is, but creamy like mayonnaise and you use it on salads, obviously! It's also a tiny bit sharp like ketchup is. I'm completely addicted to the stuff. REALLY good on cold pizza.

@Sirvinya I love your blog and videos! Thank you so much for all your work :) I'm gonna check out Recessionista's now too!

  12. L'Oreal should really start to sell the scrublets seperately. They could be good "replacements" if someone feels theirs has gotten too worn-out, or, more importantly, for people who want TWO scrublets. Most people are used to washing their face with both hands, symmetrically. And a third point, for people who want to try the scrublet with their own face wash, if they aren't comfortable with switching yet, but the company still makes a profit. What's to lose?
